Rod’s Berry Farm began as a desire within Rodney Elmstrand’s heart in the latter 1970s, as Rodney Elmstrand was graduating from college.
Rod was adamant about purchasing his parents’ farm (80 acres bought from his parents back in 1934) however, he was not equipped to run a traditional farm of soybeans and corn.
Rod was a student at “strawberry school” at the U of MN, and the first seeds were planted in 1981, with all his siblings joining to assist.
Rod was married to Sara following the first harvest season in 1982. They’ve been blessed with five amazing farmhands who have grown up working on the farm as often as possible.
